Polypropylene (PP) resins represent the fastest-growing commodity thermoplastic resin in the world and are now surpassed only by polyethylenes and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in total volume of production. So says a recent report from SRI Consulting, Menlo Park, California.
In 1996, global PP production was almost 48 billion pounds (22 metric tons), an average annual growth of 9% from 1991 levels.
Transportation uses constitute one of the major end-use markets for injection-molded PP. The resin's very low density, good mechanical properties and good injection-molding characteristics make it very suitable for the large volume, cost- and weight-conscious automotive market, says
