The National Petrochemical and Refining Association held its annual Computer Conference and Showcase November 14–17 in Kansas City, Missouri. The topic of the question-and-answer session was systems integration. Here is a sampling of some of the more interesting comments made by the panelists on the highlighted subjects. System architecture. Bruce Taylor (Electronic Data Systems) commented that architecture should be based on business objectives not technology. Companies often let technology dictate the system architecture and then try to fit the business plan around it, instead of the other way around.
