An ambitious program has been developed to train individuals to evaluate the thermal performance of insulated vs. uninsulated processes in a facility. The National Insulation Association (NIA) believes that "if plant/ energy managers had a better understanding of the true dollar performance value of an insulated process system, they would be more inclined to include insulation in their energy conservation planning and product mix." An insulation appraisal puts actual dollar savings to Btu losses and also calculates greenhouse gas emissions such as CO2 and NOx. An appraiser uses information supplied by the plant's engineering staff as well as data gathered from a facility walk-throug
