Global demand for detergent alkylate will grow
3%/yr, according to Colin A. Houston & Associates, a
chemical consulting firm based in Pound Ridge, New York. This
amounts to 2.5 million tons (MMton) in 1999 to 3.5 MMton in
2010.
Worldwide consumption of linear alkylbenzene (LAB)
will grow 3.6%/yr; phased alkylbenzene (BAB) will decline
8%/yr over the same period. In 1999, LAB accounted for 92% of
the detergent alkylate market. Its share is expected to rise
to 98% by 2010 as BAB continues to be phased out of detergent
applications.
