It is the beginning of 2003, a good time for
improving process safety. The new IEC 61511 standard for the
process industries has passed voting on part 1 (the meat!).
Most in the U.S. expect it will replace ISA 84.01 this year.
The certified functional safety expert (CFSE) program
continues to grow with several dozen new engineers meeting
the requirements this past year.
It has been an exciting year for new product
introductions into the safety instrumented system marketplace
as well. Valves are now available with safety certification.
Valve interfaces with automatic partial valve stroke testing
are now safety certified.
