Catalyst demand in the US is forecast to increase 4.5%/yr to $3.5 billion in 2007. In volume terms, consumption will advance 2.1%/yr to 8.1 billion pounds. Growth will derive primarily from the continuing strong sales of advanced next-generation catalysts, says a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc., a Cleveland-based industrial market research firm. In addition, environmental pressures will spark product mix changes and additional new product development. Gains will be moderated by the improved selectivity and life span characteristics of the newer catalysts, which will require less frequent replacement. Petroleum refining catalysts demand will advance 3.3%/yr to $1.2 billion in 200
