Discussions of future trends for the Chinese methanol market were featured at the annual Methanol Forum, Houston, Texas. China is the second largest consumer of methanol and quickly advancing to be the largest methanol-producing nation, according to Mark Berggren with Singapore-based Methanol Market Services Asia (www.methanolmsa.com). Over the next five years, methanol demand by the Asia-Pacific region is estimated to increase from 13 million metric tons (MMton) to 18 MMton. China is responsible for most of the new demand.
