According to IHS Chemical, global demand for polyethylene (PE) is expected to increase by more than 25% during the next five years, from approximately 85 million metric tons (metric MMt) in 2014, to more than 106 metric MMt in 2019. As demand for PE increases, so does demand for linear alpha olefins (LAO). PE, and linear, low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), in particular, is the largest demand segment for these important chemicals. The growth pattern for LAO demand is expected to follow growth in new LLDPE capacity in North America (NA), the Middle East (ME) and China.
