Darji, P., Chaube, N., Dave, N., L&T-Chiyoda Ltd.

The fractionation tower/column is common processing equipment in the petroleum refinery and chemical industry. This essential equipment is used in the distillation of crude (hydrocarbon mixtures) to separate the mixture into its component parts or fractions, based on the difference in volatilities. Because its principal function is to separate hydrocarbon based on boiling points of the hydrocarbon mixture, the column is subjected to varying operating temperature across its height rather than the same temperature throughout. The fractionation tower is connected to many piping systems for conveying liquid and gaseous fluids. Piping is subjected to very high temperature and differential therma
