CB&I wins technology deal for China propane dehydrogenation unit

CB&I said that its Lummus Technology business has been awarded a contract by Ningbo Haiyue New Material Co. for the license and engineering design of a grassroots propane dehydrogenation unit to be built in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China.

The unit will use the CATOFIN dehydrogenation process to produce 600,000 tpy of propylene. It is expected to start up in 2014.

Propylene is a building block used to produce a variety of products including plastics and solvents.

“As the preeminent licensor of olefins processing technology solutions, we are pleased that Ningbo Haiyue New Material has selected our CATOFIN process for their propylene project,” said Dan McCarthy, president of CB&I’s Lummus Technology business sector.

“The CATOFIN process, which is recognized for its reliable and efficient performance, is a cost effective option for increasing propylene supply as ethylene plants shift toward lighter feedstocks,” he added.
