Ksi Lisims LNG chooses Siemens Energy for low-carbon electrical compression design

The Ksi Lisims LNG project has awarded Siemens Energy a contract to assist with designing the project’s liquefaction compression and associated electrical systems. Siemens Energy is widely recognized as one of the world leaders in the design and supply of compression and electrical equipment and systems.

Designed to connect with B.C.’s renewable hydroelectric power supply, Ksi Lisims LNG’s emissions will be over 90 percent lower than a conventional LNG facility powered with gas turbines, resulting in one of the lowest carbon intensities of any other LNG export terminal in the world. The project and Siemens Energy are undertaking early, proactive, and collaborative work to advance best-in-class operational performance for the facility.

Siemens Energy will provide advisory services for the entire end-to-end design, including process optimization with a focus on compressor performance, motor and drive design, controls architecture, and the complete electrical low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) systems associated with the compressors. The company will also offer other consulting services, including connecting the electromechanical systems to the external grid.

Once operational, Ksi Lisims LNG will produce 12 million tons of LNG per year. It is expected to create thousands of jobs and provide substantial financial benefits to the Nisga’a Nation and Indigenous nations across B.C.’s northwest.   

Ksi Lisims LNG will be one of the most significant Indigenous-supported industrial developments in Canadian history. The project is an example of economic reconciliation in action: co-developed with the Nisga’a Nation and hosted on land owned by the Nisga’a Lisims Government.
