Mexico's Pemex restarting operations at Olmeca refinery after power failure
Mexico's state oil company Pemex said its Olmeca refinery was restarting operations after a failure in the complex's power plant forced a shutdown.
After a cogeneration system failure on Wednesday afternoon, processing plants were brought to a safe condition and there were no risks to personnel, the surrounding community, or the environment, the company said in a statement late on Wednesday.
"In response to the situation, the appropriate operational procedures were immediately implemented, which allowed the process plants to be brought to a safe condition," Pemex said.
The company said there was no emergency situation at the refinery, one of Mexico's largest.
The refinery, which has a production capacity of 340,000 barrels per day (bpd) but is currently operating at lower processing levels, has faced a series of setbacks.
In May, a brief fire broke out at the Olmeca refinery, located in the southern state of Tabasco, but was quickly controlled using established safety protocols.
A fire also broke out in the refinery's coke storage area on April 9.
