Suman Das has more than 18 yr of experience in static and rotary equipment maintenance in the oil and gas industry. He works with Bahrain Petroleum Co. as a Shutdown Project Engineer. Previously, he worked with SABIC Petrochemicals in Saudi Arabia and at Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery in India. Apart from maintenance, he was involved in the development of best practices for ethylene furnace maintenance at SABIC, and other various maintenance development programs for Reliance. He earned a BE degree in mechanical engineering from Assam Engineering College in Guwahati, India.

Technological advances have allowed predictive maintenance (i.e., condition-based maintenance) to overtake preventive maintenance in plant operations. “Look, listen and feel (LLF)” is a condition monitoring technique that improves the reliability of equipment and machinery in manifolds.
