GTL '13: Inaugural Gas-to-Liquids Technology Forum set to open in Houston

Gulf Publishing Company is launching the inaugural Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) Technology Forum this week in Houston at the Norris Conference Centers—CityCentre.

Honeywell is a sponsor for the event, which begins Tuesday and runs through Wednesday.

Although GTL Technology was initially developed in the first half of the 20th century, the abundance of natural gas, rising crude oil prices, and environmental regulations have led to a marked interest in GTL processes in North America.  Driven by robust shale gas production and new technologies that are reducing the costs associated with GTL processes, investment in GTL is increasing.

Industry leaders like Sasol, Shell and BP have made GTL project announcements/plans, and numerous companies are currently involved in the development of mobile GTL units at well sites and remote refineries.

Sasol’s Mark Schnell, general manager for marketing, strategy and new business development, will serve as a keynote speaker for the event. The  technical conference will also have presentations from GTL technology experts, representing companies including ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, CompactGTL, Chart Energy & Chemicals, Indian Oil Corporation, Velocys and R3 Sciences.

“GTL is poised to become an increasingly important part of the North American energy industry. We are excited to provide a forum for top operators and technology leaders from across the global hydrocarbon industry to connect and explore the potential for growth in the GTL sector,” said John Royall, president and CEO of Gulf Publishing Company, which publishes both World Oil and Hydrocarbon Processing.

The conference agenda features sessions on small-scale and modular GTL technology, methanol-to-gasoline technology, process control challenges in GTL, and the conversion of syngas to ethanol. The full agenda is available online at www.gulfpub.com/GTL.
