Fine-tune cracking efficiencies for larger olefins crackers
Innovations in radiant coil design and layout facilitate leap to greater-capacity single-cell furnaces for ethylene plants
The capacity of olefins cracking furnaces greatly impacts the manufacturing costs for ethylene and propylene. Olefin production is strictly a cracking operation. Thus, the efficiency of the convection and radiant sections largely determines profitability for this petrochemical operation. As the size of cracking furnaces increases, the proper arrangement of the radiant coils becomes imperative. New design trends are being applied in cracking furnaces at olefins facilities in China.
Cracking furnace capacities have increased. In China, ethylene furnace capacity of 100,000 metric tpy (100 M metric tpy) is very common. In some cases, furnaces with 45-M metric tpy capacity w
