Tank farm safety design: Updates
New review queries guidelines and various international codes for tank farm bunds
The hydrocarbon processing industry (HPI) uses large storage tanks to manage inventories of raw materials and finished products (Fig. 1). Various international codes define design parameters to ensure the safe and efficient operation of aboveground storage tanks (ASTs). This article discusses specific requirements for petroleum tank-farm bund wall sizing, plot area and associated costs for larger storage facilities (100,000 m3 plus) for ASTs with operating pressures <17 kPa (2.5 psig).
