Although it is the smallest Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) member nation, both in terms of area and population, Qatar contains the third-largest proven reserves of natural gas in the world. Natural gas is sourced primarily from Qatars North field. With an estimated 900 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of recoverable gas reserves, the North field is the largest non-associated natural gas field in the world and represents roughly 10% of the worlds known reserves.
