Each May, Hydrocarbon Processing focuses on the topic of maintenance and reliability. These two terms go hand-in-hand and are key building blocks to help ensure efficient and safe operations. Maintenance and reliability have been ingrained within this publication since its inception in 1922. At that time, it was called The Refiner and Natural Gasoline Manufacturer, taking several names—Refiner (1924–1952), Petroleum Refiner (1953–1963), Hydrocarbon Processing and Petroleum Refiner (1963–1966)—until establishing the name Hydrocarbon Processing in 1966.  One thing that has not changed in the industry is the importance of a thorough maintenance program.
