By WAYNE MA

BEIJING -- Lanzhou Petrochemical Co., a subsidiary of PetroChina, has started operating a refining unit capable of producing 600,000 tpy, or about 13,000 bpd, of jet fuel.

The refining unit, known as a hydrodesulfurizer, will help the PetroChina subsidiary produce 1 million tpy of jet fuel, making it the largest jet-fuel production base in western China, parent company China National Petroleum Corp. said Monday in an in-house newsletter.

PetroChina's Lanzhou refinery and petrochemical complex is the largest refinery in western China and has the ability to process more than 10.5 million tpy of crude oil, according to CNPC.
