RINA wins engineering, design deal for expansion of Greek LNG terminal
RINA Group on Thursday was awarded a contract for basic engineering design, environmental and social impact assessment, safety and other studies for the expansion of Greeces only LNG terminal at Revithoussa.
The four-month project
was awarded to RINA by DESFA (Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator).
The expansion of the LNG Revithoussa terminal cryogenic facilities will boost the maximum sustainable gas send-out rate to 1400 Nm3/h, with a peak send-out rate of 1650 Nm3/h.
The existing terminal consists of an import jetty, two full containment storage tanks
, plus one under construction, re-gasification equipment and send-out facilities. It is situated on an island west of Athens and currently handles between 0.51 and 0.68 billion cubic metres of gas annually, supplied by Algeria's Sonatrach.
The expansion project will analyze potential interfaces not only with the existing LNG terminal, but also the third tank
under construction, according to project officials.
RINA has been chosen for this vital expansion project
because of our expertise with gas, and because of our ability to draw on multiple skills and competences within the RINA Group," said Angelo Lo Nigro, energy manager for RINA Group.
RINA Services S.p.A. is the lead company of a joint-venture set up to deliver the project
, which also includes RINA Group engineering consultancy D'Appolonia and Greeces Exergia.
RINA subsidiary Projenia will be responsible for cryogenic facilities design, while D'Appolonia will be responsible for carrying out safety studies and environmental impact assessment. Permitting will be done by Exergia.
