CITGO Pipeline wins top API small operator award for occupational safety

The American Petroleum Institute (API) has recognized the performance of CITGO Pipeline with the 2012 Occupational Safety Award in the small operator category, the company announced on Thursday.

It is the fourth consecutive year that CITGO has won the award.

This award is among the industry's top honors and is reserved for companies that demonstrate excellence in safety. The award is presented to companies with the lowest Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable injury and illness incident rates for employees and contractors.

"We are honored to receive this award. It is a tribute to the sustained dedication and commitment of our employees to the highest standards in health and safety," said CITGO chief executive Alejandro Granado.

"At CITGO, we are deeply committed to health and safety," he added. "That is why we adhere to best-practice standards, consistent employee training, performance metrics and auditing to continually meet the high-level of performance we are known for."

The award was presented at API's 64th Annual Pipeline Conference in San Diego, California.

CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products.
