KBR to construct Invista nylon retrofit in Texas

KBR was awarded a contract by INVISTA, a global nylon producer, to provide construction services for their next-generation manufacturing technology production facility located in Orange, Texas, the companies announced on Wednesday.

Under the contract, KBR will provide pre-construction and multi-discipline construction services for mechanical, equipment settings, structural steel, electrical and instrumentation.

“KBR is fully committed to supporting our client’s objective for the implementation of this new technology,” said Ivor Harrington, group president for KBR's services business.

“We look forward to delivering superior performance on this milestone project and building on the valuable relationship with INVISTA," he added.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

According to INVISTA's website, the technology involves a new butadiene-based chemistry that improves product yields and ease of operations while requiring a lower annual maintenance investment compared to existing technology.

The technology also delivers significant air emission and waste reductions, evidenced through the operation of a pilot scale facility, also located in Orange.

INVISTA said it expects to invest more than $100 million at the Orange facility until startup in mid-2014.
