Technip wins work for UAE coke calcination project

Technip won a contract comprising technology, engineering services and supply of core equipment for the new coke calcination unit of Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer), officials confirmed on Friday.

This new unit is part of the carbon black and delayed coker project being implemented adjacent to Takreer’s existing Ruwais refinery located in the United Arab Emirates.

The unit will consist of two trains and is designed to process 700,000 tpy of superior-quality anode green petroleum coke through 2 kilns, thanks to the implementation of world-leading licensed technologies.

The processed coke will be used as anode coke for Abu Dhabi's growing aluminium industry. Technip will support the EPC contractor, Samsung Engineering, until the completion of the performance testing of the new unit.

Technip's operating center in Düsseldorf, Germany will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2015.

"This contract follows the successful completion of the process design package for this new coke calcination unit for Takreer last year," said Mesut Sahin, managing director of Technip in Germany.

"The award reinforces the world-leading position of the rotary kiln and cooler technologies representing about 70% of the world’s total calcined coke production capacity. We are proud for being entrusted to design and deliver our 7th reference plant to our customers."
