Formosa plans key maintenance at Taiwan refinery

By ERIC YEP

Formosa Petrochemical, plans to shut two secondary units at its Mailiao refinery in Taiwan for planned maintenance in October, traders said.

Formosa will conduct maintenance at an 80,000 bpd vacuum distillation unit or VDU, and a 84,000 bpd residual fluid catalytic cracking unit or RFCC, traders said.

The maintenance may last for two to four weeks, although the exact dates are not yet known, they said. The 540,000 bpd Mailiao refinery complex has a total of three crude distillation units, one VDU and two RFCCs.

Traders said one of Formosa's RFCCs that was scheduled to resume operations this month after maintenance is operating at a low capacity due to technical issues. The secondary units are used to produce diesel and gasoline, and the output of the two products will be curbed due to the overall maintenance schedule.

Formosa didn't immediately respond to queries.
