Praxair expands operation of India nitrogen plants

Praxair has signed two long-term contracts with JSW Steel to operate small on-site nitrogen plants in support of the company’s expansion efforts in the cities of Kalameshwar and Tarapur, located in the state of Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday.

The nitrogen will be used in the manufacturing processes for both cold rolled and galvanized steel at these locations.

Praxair is also finalizing construction of a nitrogen plant for EPCOS India, a part of TDK-EPC Corp., a manufacturer of passive electronic components such as soft ferrites and inductive components in Kalyani, West Bengal.

In addition, Praxair recently started up a small nitrogen plant for United Phosphorus, a global agrochemicals company in Jhagadia, Gujarat.

Praxair says is successfully expanding its presence in India through projects like these, which combine novel application technologies with the right production and supply systems to meet the growing needs of its customers.

“Praxair’s small on-site plants provide flexibility and supply reliability for our customers, enabling them to focus on their core offerings rather than their industrial gas requirements,” said Anuj Sharma, managing director of Praxair India.

“Applications technologies provided by Praxair also support our customers in their efforts to be more energy efficient, increase productivity, improve environmental performance and optimize costs," he added. "Customers with smaller gas requirements who want to outsource their industrial gas needs have found Praxair’s small on-site plants provide them with the right solution.”
