ASTM seeks participants to develop cetane test method

ASTM International is welcoming participants to create the first constant volume combustion chamber test method that would measure the generic cetane number of diesel fuels.

This new standard is aimed at determining the cetane number of both conventional diesel fuel oils as well as diesel fuels oils that contain additives used to improve the cetane number.  The proposed test method would be automated, using a carousel and auto sampler that allows unattended operation, thus saving operator time and money.

The proposed standard has the potential to be used by testing and research laboratories, diesel fuel manufacturers, regulatory bodies, car and engine manufacturers, and universities.
