The refinery, key to local fuel supply, has the capacity to process 146,000 bpd of crude oil.

Its catalytic cracker recently resumed production after months out of service for major maintenance.

"The alkylation unit of the El Palito refinery has resumed operations to produce the alkylate, an input needed to obtain fuel products of high commercial value," the tweet read.

There were long lines at gasoline stations last month in several Venezuelan cities amid problems linked to El Palito's operation.
