Supply of Bharat Stage VI auto fuels to hit Delhi market by April

NEW DELHI – India advanced the 2020 deadline for supply of Bharat Stage VI (BS-VI) fuel to 1 April 2018. The advanced date is an effort to reduce the problem of air pollution in National Capital Territory of Delhi and surrounding areas

According to LiveMint, The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said that originally BS-VI fuel was to hit in the Delhi market by 2020, but considering the "serious pollution" levels the date was moved.

“After taking into account the serious pollution levels in Delhi and adjoining areas and as per the decision taken by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in consultation with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), it is respectfully submitted that BS-VI auto fuels will be supplied in all retail outlets of Delhi from 1 April 2018,” the centre said in an affidavit.

Over the years, a series of orders have been passed including banning the sales and registration of vehicles that are not compliant with BS-VI fuel after 31 March 2017. The goal is to drastically reduce the alarming levels of pollution in the area.
