Taiwan's CPC brings naphtha cracker online a week early

Taiwan's state-owned refiner CPC Corp has brought a naphtha cracker back online a week ahead of schedule to help maintain stable domestic supplies amid supply chain disruption brought about by the war in the Middle East.

  • CPC said that the number 4 naphtha cracking plant at Linyuan restarted operations ahead of schedule on March 31, seven days ahead of schedule, in an effort to ease domestic downstream petrochemical feedstock demand as quickly as possible.

  • Monthly ethylene supply will increase to 79,000 metric tons from just over 60,000 tons, ensuring ample domestic supply of plastic raw materials, CPC said.

  • Based on equivalent plastic raw material output, the additional capacity is estimated to enable downstream manufacturers to produce approximately 340 million plastic bags, sized 30 cm by 30 cm, the company added.

  • Production capacity is expected to increase further to 90,000 tons in May, helping stabilize the domestic supply of essential goods, it said.

  • CPC's statement came after Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai's visit to the Linyuan plant.
