ABB starts up lube oil blending plant for Petromin

ABB Cellier, a segment of ABB France's Process Automation division, recently launched operations at a new lube oil blending plant for Petromin Corp. in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

ABB Cellier provided detailed engineering and procurement, mechanical and electrical site supervision, and the commissioning of the core process equipment. The scope of supply included both batch and in-line blending technologies.

Transfer operations are automatically performed using pigged lines and a piggable manifold for the transfers between finished product tanks and filling lines or bulk delivery stations. This piggable manifold is of horizontal design, which enables transfers via a reduced number of pumps so as to optimize the investment cost. The new facility is automated, and plant-wide activities are managed by a Lubcel control system to ensure process flexibility and safety.

ABB Cellier's state-of-the-art equipment and advanced control system have allowed Petromin to boost its production in order to meet domestic and export market needs. With an annual capacity of 125,000 tons of lubricating oils per shift, the new facility is able to produce a wide range of automotive and industrial oils and is one of the largest lube oil blending plants in the Middle East.
