Crude tank explodes at Texas fuel storage terminal
Firefighters have extinguished a crude oil tank fire that began Thursday night at a fuel storage terminal in Galveston, Texas, according to news media reports.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which began with an explosion around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday night and was extinguished around 3:30 a.m. on Friday morning, the reports say.
Fire crews from Texas City, Santa Fe, League City and BP joined Galveston firefighters to contain the blaze, the Galveston Daily News reported.
The terminal was located on the waterfront docks in Galveston, a town 45 miles southeast of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico shoreline.
One worker was treated for smoke inhalation but no other injuries were reported, the Associated Press reported.
The plant is operated by Texas International Terminals.
The facility has the capacity to handle 1.25 million bbl of liquid cargo storage and 350,000 tons of dry flat storage, according to the Daily News.
