Huntsman to expand polyurethane catalyst output at Hungary, Spain sites

The performance products division of Huntsman announced plans to expand manufacturing capacity of specialty amines used as polyurethane catalysts at manufacturing facilities in Petfurdo, Hungary and in Barcelona, Spain.

The expansions are aimed at extending the Huntsman manufacturing portfolio, further leveraging the company’s integrated amines capability and increase existing polyurethane catalyst production capacity by 25%, the company said.

Financial details were not disclosed.

In the last five years, Huntsman says it has seen interest in its JEFFCAT amine catalysts accelerate across the globe.

“The capacity expansion leverages our strong manufacturing and technology base and enhances what is already the widest in-house manufacturing capability across the industry,” said Stu Monteith, president of Huntsman’s performance products division.

“We have consistently improved capability and extended the product range manufactured at our Petfurdo location over the last 10 years. However, in the last few years demand has begun to fill production capabilities across our two main production sites in Petfurdo and Conroe, Texas,” he continued.

“The new capacity and addition of a third manufacturing site shows the commitment that we will build, ahead of the demand curve, to match our customers’ growth.”

“We see global demand in the low emission and 1K sealant markets continuing to grow and this expansion plan satisfies those needs and ensures we meet the burgeoning demand in the rapidly growing rigid spray insulation market,” added John Smyth, vice president of performance products, additives and home and personal care.
