Jacobs wins engineering work on Afipsky refinery expansion in Russia

Jacobs Engineering Group was awarded a contract from Afipsky Refinery, located in the Krasnodarskij region of Russia, to develop a basic engineering package for an amine regenerator unit, a sour water stripper and an expected 55 tpd sulfur recovery unit (SRU).

All three units are part of a refinery expansion project, which includes a hydrotreater unit and a visbreaker unit.

Officials did not disclose the contract value.

The SRU design is based on Jacobs' proprietary EUROCLAUS process and is being executed from Jacobs' office in Leiden, The Netherlands, the company said.

Jacobs is working closely with the Moscow-based EPC contractor, Giprogazoochistka, who is Russia's leading engineer of gas treating units and SRUs.

Jacobs says it has designed approximately 450 units around the world since 1985, including 15 SRUs in Russia and several countries in the former Soviet Union.

“We are proud to receive this new contract and look forward to working with Giprogazoochistka to support Afipsky Refinery's important expansion project,” said Jacobs vice president Robert Matha.
