Air Products to supply gases for China LCD facility

Air Products said Tuesday that it signed a long-term contract with Xiamen Tianma Microelectronics to supply bulk gases, including ultra high-purity nitrogen and oxygen, hydrogen, argon, and helium, at a new facility in China.

The facility is China's first 5.5 Generation low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) and color filter production line.

It is located at Xiamen Xiang'an Industrial Park in Fujian Province. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Xiamen Tianma is an affiliate of Shenzhen-listed Tianma Microelectronics, a leading Chinese small- and medium-sized TFT-LCD maker.

It leverages Tianma's experience in research and development, production, and management in the TFT-LCD industry, the companies said.

The deal further strengthens the position of Air Products in China's fast-growing TFT-LCD market, company officials said.

"We are honored to again collaborate with Tianma in Xiamen and supply China's most advanced LTPS LCD facility with our safe and reliable gas solutions and expertise in the TFT-LCD industry," said Wayne Mitchell, vice president and general manager of the electronics division at Air Products.

"The contract reflects Air Products' strategy to further strengthen its leadership in China's electronics industry and grow together with Chinese customers to help them achieve high quality, improve productivity, and raise energy efficiency."

Air Products has already been supplying bulk gases to Tianma's facility in Shanghai and electronics materials to its Chengdu plant.
