Verbio commences biorefinery conversion project in Indiana (U.S.)
Verbio has begun converting its South Bend ethanol plant into a cutting-edge biorefinery. With a groundbreaking ceremony, Verbio aims to integrate renewable natural gas (RNG) and bioethanol production through innovative methods.
Verbio's expansion received approval from the City of South Bend, Indiana (U.S.), showcasing its commitment to sustainable growth. Anticipating a robust annual production capacity of 85 MMgal of corn ethanol and 2.8 Bft3 of RNG, Verbio's initiative promises significant economic and environmental benefits.
Mayor James Mueller lauds the project's potential to bolster the regional economy and enhance South Bend's clean energy portfolio. Collaborating closely with the city, Verbio CEO Claus Sauter emphasized the creation of job opportunities and the company's dedication to expanding renewable energy solutions in the Midwest.
Over the next six months, Verbio will lay the groundwork for eight anaerobic digester (AD) tanks, followed by extensive construction activities, including additional digesters and infrastructure enhancements. Commercial RNG production is slated to commence in 2026, marking a pivotal step towards a greener future.
