Georgia Gulf and Galata Chemicals plan to develop a line of flexible bio-based polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compounds containing Drapex Alpha, a primary plasticizer produced from renewable feedstocks by Galata Chemicals. The bio-based vinyl compounds are ideal for wire and cable and medical uses.
Formosa, Kraton venture eyes styrene copolymer plant in Taiwan
Kraton Performance Polymers is forming a 50-50 joint venture with Formosa Petrochemical to build and operate a 30,000 tpy hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer (HSBC) plant in Mailiao, Taiwan. Plant operation is expected in the first half of 2014, according to project officials.

Shaw, Total form global alliance on polystyrene
The Shaw Group said Monday that it formed an exclusive alliance with Total Petrochemicals to jointly market and license Total’s polystyrene technology on a worldwide basis. Shaw has had a similar alliance with Total Petrochemicals for styrene monomer, the primary feedstock for polystyrene, for 15 years.

Jacobs wins engineering work for Solvay specialty polymers plant in China
Jacobs Engineering Group was awarded a contract from Solvay for a specialty polymers production plant to be built at Solvay's industrial site in Changshu, located in the province of Jiangsu, China. The plant is scheduled to become operational in the first quarter of 2014 and significantly boost Solvey's capacity.
Mitsui to license polyurethane technology to SABIC
The Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) signed a TDI and MDI technology license agreement with Mitsui Chemicals under which Mitsui will provide manufacturing technology for producing TDI and MDI.
