KBR wins equipment installation deal for Georgia coal-fired power project
KBR has been awarded a contract by Southern Co. for the installation of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment, related ductwork, and auxiliaries at two 880,000 kilowatt coal-fired units at Georgia Powers Plant Scherer.
Plant Scherer is a 3,520,000-kilowatt coal-fired facility located near Macon, Ga. and is one of the largest single generating stations in the nation.
KBR will provide installation of all equipment and associated piping, steel, ductwork, electrical, instrumentation and related work, it said.
KBR will also be responsible for the procurement of piping and valves; receive all equipment and materials at the site; and provide storage, rigging, assembly of modules, lifting, placing, connecting and other services as necessary.
The contract award follows the completion of various projects for Southern Co. by KBR, most recently the heavy structural steel construction project at Plant Scherer.
This project continues a successful relationship with Southern Company and expands KBRs presence in the US domestic power industry, said Danny Hicks, senior vice president for KBR Construction.
