Indian Barmer Refinery will change the fate and face of Rajasthan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the 9 Million Tonne per Annum (MTPA) Barmer refinery will change the fate and the face of Rajasthan. Inaugurating the refinery at Pachpadra in Barmer, Modi announced the project will be commissioned by 2022 and dedicated it to the country’s freedom fighters on India’s 75thIndependence day.

Criticizing the Congress regime for project delays, Modi said, “Vasundhara Raje and Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are complaining about Congress’ ploy to get political traction in 2013 by announcing the setting up of Rajasthan refinery without any clearances or budget allocations. They should not be surprised as it has happened so many times in so many different places. In railways, more than 1,500 projects had been announced and no work has taken place in any of these projects,” he added.

The Prime Minister also talked about how the government has changed the living conditions of rural India by providing more than 3.30 core Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and added that the government is on track to provide free electricity connections to four crore households by December 2018.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Raje while talking about the scope of energy investments in the state, said that the people of Jaisalmer will benefit from the 1,000 MW solar park being built in the region and people of Rajasthan should be proud of the 2,255 MW solar park, the largest in the world, being built in Bhadla, Jodhpur.

Pradhan during his speech announced a plan by government-owned oil companies to jointly set-up a desalination plant in collaboration with Rajasthan government to provide drinkable water for people of the region.

The Oil Minister said the region is expected to witness a lot of investment in the next three-four years with the government planning multiple projects with investment opportunity of over Rs 1 lakh crore. London-listed metals and mining firm Vedanta, which is also the operator of the Barmer oilfields, has planned an investment of over Rs 37,000 crore in Barmer fields alone, he said.
