Hydrocarbon Processing and AIChE announce strategic partnership

Hydrocarbon Processing and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) announced its strategic partnership during AIChE’s 2018 Spring Meeting and 14th Global Congress on Process Safety in Orlando, Florida. The partnership will establish a relationship in which Hydrocarbon Processing will become the membership publication specific to the AIChE Fuels and Petrochemicals Division (F&PD). The announcement was made prior to Monday morning’s F&PD keynote presentation, “A view toward 2035: Challenges for refining and petrochemicals in a changing energy mix,” by Jim Rekoske, Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Honeywell UOP (FIG. 1).

The partnership will provide both parties a larger platform to reach chemical engineers around the world. According to AIChE’s website, the F&PD provides a forum for information exchange between practicing engineers and the chemical engineer educator, the promotion of ideas between chemical engineers in other industries to stimulate knowledge transfer, coordinating the institute’s activities with other societies active in fuels and petrochemicals and promoting leadership, education and best practices throughout the industry. “This partnership is a great way to expand both of our voices to the global fuels and petrochemicals industries,” said Lee Nichols, Editor and Associate Publisher of Hydrocarbon Processing. “Many of their (AIChE) members are readers of Hydrocarbon Processing so it is a natural fit that will be mutually beneficial.”

The strategic partnership was echoed during Tuesday morning’s F&PD panel discussion, as well. The panel discussion featured three panelists—Paul Durand, ExxonMobil, Sanjeev Kapur, Apex PetroConsultants, and Lee Nichols, Hydrocarbon Processing and Gas Processing—that discussed the impacts of US shale gas/oil on infrastructure development in North America.
