Woong Yang is a Chemical Engineer in charge of digital transformation planning for Hyundai Oilbank in Daesan, South Korea. In his 9-yr career, he has not only carried out SRU revamp projects but also has held various roles associated with managing plant energy, utilities and offsites; process automation; and crude distillation, vacuum and delayed coker units, including troubleshooting and optimization activities. He earned a chemical engineering degree from Chungnam National University in Daejeon, South Korea, and was also designated as a master craftsman of hazardous materials from the National Fire Agency of the Republic of Korea.

The consistent global trend toward improvements in air quality and tighter regulations on emissions, as well as the International Maritime Organization’s shipping regulations, continue to mitigate sulfur levels—not only in conventional transport fuels (petrol and diesel), but also in jet fuels, fuel oils and other heavier distillates.
